LA HAP Bulletin for 4/3/18
Updated FPIG guidelines in effect
Following Louisiana Medicaid’s adoption of the 2018 Federal Income Poverty Guidelines in March, LA HAP is now assessing income eligibility for applicants based on these guidelines.
Tax filing considerations for LA HAP clients
If you missed last week’s webinar on tax filing considerations for LA HAP clients, you can access the slide set here (or under the “Technical Assistance Resources” tab of lahap.org). Letters were sent last week to all clients who received an Advance Premium Tax Credit (APTC) in 2017, guiding them through the process of reimbursing HIP for any excess premiums paid on their behalf throughout the year. Copies of these letters can be found on on the “Technical Assistance Resources” tab. All individuals who received an APTC are required by law to file their federal taxes to complete the reconciliation process.
Correspondence sent to AARP Medicare clients
Because of UnitedHealthcare’s misunderstanding of the HIP billing process, LA HAP clients who have AARP Medicare Part D plans (as administered through UnitedHealthcare) might soon receive or have already received a bill from UnitedHealthcare saying they owe a recent premium payment despite HIP being up to date on payments. If you or your client receive a bill believed to be in error, please forward to HIP for their records and to determine if follow-up is needed. LA HAP has sent letters to affected clients letting them know they might be contacted by UnitedHealthcare.
