Do you currently receive LA HAP benefits but don’t have health insurance? You might consider signing up for a Marketplace health insurance plan.
Health insurance can help you meet your medical needs. And once you’re enrolled in health insurance, LA HAP can help cover the costs. We can help pay for premiums and the copays and deductibles for the services your insurance covers. In fact, with both health insurance and LA HAP benefits, some people pay nothing out of pocket.
Enrollment in Marketplace health insurance (also known as Obamacare) is only open for a short period at the end of each year. This period is called Open Enrollment, and this year it will last between November 1st and January 15th.
You can also enroll in Marketplace insurance when it’s not Open Enrollment if your household goes through certain changes. These changes are called “life events,” and they include things like getting married, moving, having a baby, or losing other health insurance (such as insurance through an employer).
Interested in enrolling? Here’s what you’ll need to do:
STEP 1: ENROLL IN A MARKETPLACE PLAN
To get started selecting a Marketplace plan, go to healthcare.gov. There they will also review your eligibility for Medicaid.
Make sure the Marketplace plan you select covers all your medications and providers. We’ve created a handy Health Insurance Passport Tool to help you do that.
You might like help figuring out which plan is best for you. Agents, brokers, and assisters provide help for free. You can locate one near you with the official Find Local Help search engine.
For even more personalized assistance with Marketplace enrollment, you can work with a case manager. Visit our Find a Case Manager page to locate case managers in your area.
STEP 2: SEND YOUR MARKETPLACE PLAN INFORMATION TO LA HAP
Once you’ve enrolled, LA HAP will need some information to start paying your monthly plan premiums. There are a few ways you can do that!
Go to the new LA HAP Member Portal, where you can enter your plan information and upload a copy of the plan invoice that shows the monthly premium amount.
You can also send us the plan information by fax or mail. To do that, complete the Insurance Add/Change Form and send it in with a copy of your plan premium invoice.
A case manager can also help you to get us the plan information. Visit our Find a Case Manager page to locate case managers in your area.
